How to get involved with Rockin’ 4 the Reefs?
A few examples of how to get involved might include:
(but use your own creativity to come up with new ideas too!)

  • Hold a concert with music, dance or visual arts to raise awareness for reefs (i.e. musicians perform their music and charge a fee for entrance with funds going to our cause)
  • Design a poster or PPT to create awareness for reefs and educate others
  • Create a blog, wiki or other site to raise awareness for reefs (please see this wiki created by students at Pasir Ridge International School in Indonesia.. it was created for our event last year SUN BEAR ROCK!) http://sunbearrock.wikispaces.com/
  • Sell t-shirts for our cause (we will have designs for t-shirts soon!)
  • Host a bake sale to raise funds  (THE CORAL REEF CAFE  or REEF RESTAURANT!)
  • Have different home groups or clubs compete to raise funds and awareness for reefs
  • Public art project (recycled in the shape of a reef)
  • Choreograph a Flash Mob Dance with a message about coral reefs
  • Host an underwater photography contest
  • Form a Reef Action Club to raise awareness about the reefs
  • any CREATIVE and FUN ideas that will help people understand why coral reefs are important, why we need to protect them… and hopefully raise funds for conservation too!

Please let us know if you have any more questions, if you would like to get involved.. and please stay in touch.

SUN BEAR ROCK!

ROCKIN’ FOR THE ENVIRONMENT 21-27 APRIL 2012

The Environmental Education Alliance of South East Asia (EEASEA) organised Rockin’ 4 the Environment – SUN BEAR ROCK! in conjunction with the Earth Day celebrations from 21-27 April 2012.

Rockin’ 4 the Environment has so far piqued the interest of animal conservationists around the world and raises vital funds and awareness for conservation and environmental education oriented NGO’s in Malaysia. So far, the program has contributed a total of RM55,000 since 2007 to its non-profit partners.

Led by a group of schoolteachers and musicians, and the International School of Kuala Lumpur the weeklong festival took place at DoPPel Kafe @ Central Market Annexe in the heart of Kuala Lumpur and raised over RM15,000 for the plight of the endangered Sun Bears in Borneo. EEASEA is working hand-in-hand with NGO partner, Bornean Sun Bears Conservation Centre based in Sandakan, Sabah. Over 35 musicians are participating in this worthy cause-related fest and they include Amir Yussof, Rafique Rashid, Jerome Kugan, The Impatient Sisters and many more musicians!

Amir Yussof performed on 27 April 2012 at Central Market Annexe Gallery

PLIGHT OF THE SUN BEAR

The BSBCC is a joint project with the Sabah Wildlife Department (SWD), which is responsible for the bears, the Sabah Forestry Department (SFD), which is responsible for managing forest reserves, LEAP, and spearheaded by Malayan Sun Bear researcher and conservationist Wong Siew Te. An MOU has been signed and SWD and SFD have donated all of the land needed for the BSBCC.  SWD has also donated buildings and veterinary expertise.  In addition, the Sabah State Government supports this project and has agreed to match all funds raised for construction of the project dollar for dollar.  This partnership with the state government is critical to ensure the long-term success of the project.

Rockin’ for the Environment presents an important opportunity to promote and increase awareness of the BORNEAN SUN BEAR CONSERVATION CENTRE – which will in turn help raise vital funds for the animals.

FACING THE CLIMATE

Facing the Climate Exhibition

Facing-the-climate-2011

The exhibition is a part of a concerted drive by the Swedish Institute to promote sustainable development, under the heading Facing the Future – Sustainability the Swedish Way.

As part of Go International Group’s ongoing support of environmental issues, Managing Director, Jasmine Low volunteered her services as Masters of Ceremonies of the official launching ceremony attended by Yang Berhormat Tan Sri Panglima Dato’ Sri Joseph Kurup – the Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, His Excellency Per-Arne Hjelmsborn – Ambassador of Sweden to Malaysia, His Excellency Vincent Piket – Ambassador of EU to Malaysia. Earth Week 2010 by School Teachers

School teacher band challenge corporations to match their fundraising efforts!

Since Earth Week celebrations earlier this year in mid April, band Benchmarx has raised over RM25,000 from just one performance at Little Havana, a two-day community event co-organised with Go International Group at SohoKL and a weekend fete at International School of Kuala Lumpur. That amazing feat is the result of teamwork and collaboration with the various parties; non-governmental organisations, small businesses and a group of well-meaning expatriate school teachers.

This is a call-out to companies seeking to play their part for the environment. If you have a CSR budget, we ask for your support for the Orang Utan Appeal UK where all funds collected will be utilised for the management / operations of Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary in Sandakan Sabah, Northern Borneo.

Dare challenge the school teachers?
