Thousands celebrated Formula
One fever at Johnnie Walker® Black Circuit Paddock Party
22 March 2008 (Kuala Lumpur) – In Grand Prix fashion, thousands celebrated the Formula One fever in downtown Kuala Lumpur tonight with international celebrity DJ Steve Aoki a.k.a. Kid Millionaire, while champions of the road like Lewis Hamilton and new partner Heikki Kovalainen from Team Vodafone McLaren Mercedes prepared to face the challenge at the 10th Kuala Lumpur Grand Prix (KLGP) the next day.
Since the partnership was sealed between Johnnie Walker® and Vodafone McLaren Mercedes in 2005 - marking the first deal of its kind by any liquor company, or a Formula One team; passion, innovation and excellence have been the main inspirational factors behind the anticipated Black Circuit Paddock Parties.
As inspiration this year, Johnnie Walker® flew in international DJ Steve Aoki a.k.a. Kid Millionaire from Los Angeles, USA for a stunning official debut performance in the capital city - adding to the glitz and glamour of the Grand Prix revelry. He was accompanied by celebrity and photographer friend Mark Hunt a.k.a. The Cobrasnake. Malaysian star DJ, Lau Hoe Yin a.k.a. DJ Blink warmed up the crowd before Kid Millionaire, truly America’s indie rock and hip hop icon rose to the occasion and spun hits from his newly launched debut mix album - 'Pillowface and his Airplane Cronicles'.
'I'm so excited to be in Malaysia! You know, my favourite colour changes every year because I'm always getting new inspiration playing and travelling around the world. Last year it was green,' beemed a thrilled Aoki. 'I was just in Shanghai yesterday at a launch with my best friend - my sister. And today, here I am in Kuala Lumpur. That's why I love my work so much,'. It was the best of indie rock, hip hop, breakbeat, tech funk and electro grooves played to a throng of thousands of Formula One and newly converted Steve Aoki fans; including celebrities like Malaysian Diva Camelia, singers Ash Nair, Melissa Indot, even Pamela Chong from popular television hit 'Amazing Race Asia'.
One of the eight official events of the KL Grand Prix City 2008 campaign, main sponsor Johnnie Walker® - the world's leading Scotch Whisky brand distributed in Malaysia by Riche Monde Sdn Bhd, hosted Black Circuit Paddock Party for the third consecutive year.
Having signed on Mika Hakkinen as Johnnie Walker's® Global Responsible Drinking Ambassador for five years from 2007 through to 2012, Johnnie Walker® and its parent company, Diageo, is committed to raising awareness on responsible drinking, staying in control and never drinking and driving.
“Diageo supports the sponsorship of such events as it allows us to play an important part in the community by educating the Malaysian public about responsible drinking. In fact, its tagline this year gets right to the point – NEVER DRINK AND DRIVE,” said John Collins, Marketing Director for Diageo Brands, Riche Monde Malaysia Sdn Bhd.
Johnnie Walker® ambassadors distributed free bottles of mineral water before the close of the evening to ensure party-goers were properly hydrated and enjoyed their evening in a responsible way. “Responsible Drinking has always been very close to our hearts here at Johnnie Walker® and at Riche Monde Malaysia. Although we would like our consumers to enjoy our range of products, we also care for them and take it as our responsibility to advise and instil in their minds the importance of responsible drinking,” said Hemanth Jayaraman, Brand Manager for Johnnie Walker Malaysia.
